CALI ALMY

I was born in New Bedford, MA and spent the earliest part of my childhood there. After many moves and homes, mainly in New England, I am grateful to be back on the south coast of Massachusetts. Aside from the deep family connections I have to the area, the natural landscape and beauty inspires me. I am especially influenced by time walking in the woods, through the marsh, and along the shore. This time has always provided me both personal and professional growth, and I am drawn to the patterns, colors, forms and contrasts I find.

I embrace the challenge of creating simple forms in clay, platters, bowls, vessels and tiles mainly, and then exploring more expressive surfaces. I play with slips, glazes, resists, printing, pouring and even finger painting to achieve results. Some of my work reveals recognizable images and patterns from the landscape while others are more abstracted. Exploring and encouraging our relationship to the natural world feels salient now as threats to the environment and increasing disconnect to the planet and each other are having clear consequences. I hope my work gives you a sense of place.
